Don Doan Dash – Race Day Instructions

Promoting Don Doan Dash 5k

The Brampton Bender promotional machine is up running. This past Wednesday saw Rob and Grace at Square One Running Room and Ivar & Sam at the Winston Churchill store. Spreading the word on the Don Doan Dash. Benders will be visiting neighboring Running Room in the coming weeks to let everyone know about the awesome race we’ve planned and hoping everyone will come out and make it a real special event.

Want to help out promoting this event?

  •  Run with another group or store? (Running Free, MEC or different Running Room)
    • Ask the manager if you can do a quick two minute pitch before the group fun run.
    • Don’t like speaking in front of groups but still want them to know about it – Contact Sam and a Bender will help
  • Post the Flyer for the run (see Sam for copies)
    • Rec Center
    • Sporting good store
    • Community Center
    • Any place runners might see and be interested.
  • Bring in it up in conversation whenever you find yourself in a group of 2 or more people
    • People never get sick of hearing about running and race stuff ????
  • If someone asks you why I should run the Don Doan Dash 5k
    • Free Technical T-Shirt
    • Finishers Medal
    • Timed Event
    • Supporting ALS
    • Supporting Brampton running community
    • Oh…and it’s going to be fun!

ALS Walk and Niagara Ultra

Depending on who you talked to the weather cooperated…well, sort of. Whether it was running 50K in Niagara or a 5K walk in Brampton your perspective might be slightly different. There was no rain but it was hot and humid. No complaints, just stating facts.

For the second year in a row The Brampton Benders were out to support our dear friend Don Doan as part of his Doaner’s Groaners as they participated in Brampton’s ALS Walk on Saturday at Chinguacousy Park. A great deal of funds, over $25,000 was raised, with over $11,000  coming from Team Doaner’s Groaners. Top fundraiser with over $4,000 raised surprising no one, is the man / team  captain / all around amazing guy, Don Doan! Wow!! Funds and awareness were raised but most importantly a great time was had by all. Thank you to all who donated, supported and participated in this event.

If you missed out on this event fear not. The Don Doan Dash 5k is coming up in a few short months. Proceeds from this race will be going to ALS Canada. Prices go up July 1st, don’t delay and register now for $30. Did I mention there’s shirts and prizes?

A few Benders managed to successfully complete a few of the many distances offered at this years Niagara Ultra. From half-marathon to the 50K. Congrats to Liz, Ivar and Sam on completing despite the heat and humidity. A sweet medal that doubles as a bottle opener for all finishers. Time to sit back and opening a few well deserved cold ones! Well done to all!

Seize Today ALS – Don Doan Featured

Our very own Don Doan is the feature of Today’s Seize Today ALS article at ALS Canada as part of ALS Awareness month. Read the fantastic article and be prepared to be inspired by Don’s positivity and amazing attitude.

Don will say that ALS has been a hard wake-up call. He says jokingly that he has a propensity to fall on any day of the week that ends in “day.” Relying on his life partner, friends and family to help him with tasks he used to do with his eyes closed is something Don accepts. He is just grateful to have the support of all these “peeps” around him.

If you’re not already signed up to be on team Doaner’s Groaners for the June 17th Walk for ALS you should be. There’s also the Don Doan Dash in September which is also in support of ALS.
