Well done, all the Ottawa Army Run participants. We had a great time. Such a nice city to visit. The race day temperatures were very hot, and made for tough running, but we did it.
There was also a handful of Benders out on the trails this weekend. Specifically 5 Peaks at Heart Lake Conservation Area. Entering both the Sport (6K) and Enduro (11K) distances. Well done all. Quick shout out to Lorraine who had a bit of a run in with some roots and rocks.
Next Sunday, hope you come to the Bender Wine run. Plans are in the works right now, Michelle will send out more info shortly.
Tuesday – 6:45 – Tim Horton, Shoppers world, for about 6 km
Depending on who you talked to the weather cooperated…well, sort of. Whether it was running 50K in Niagara or a 5K walk in Brampton your perspective might be slightly different. There was no rain but it was hot and humid. No complaints, just stating facts.
For the second year in a row The Brampton Benders were out to support our dear friend Don Doan as part of his Doaner’s Groaners as they participated in Brampton’s ALS Walk on Saturday at Chinguacousy Park. A great deal of funds, over $25,000 was raised, with over $11,000 coming from Team Doaner’s Groaners. Top fundraiser with over $4,000 raised surprising no one, is the man / team captain / all around amazing guy, Don Doan! Wow!! Funds and awareness were raised but most importantly a great time was had by all. Thank you to all who donated, supported and participated in this event.
If you missed out on this event fear not. The Don Doan Dash 5k is coming up in a few short months. Proceeds from this race will be going to ALS Canada. Prices go up July 1st, don’t delay and register now for $30. Did I mention there’s shirts and prizes?
A few Benders managed to successfully complete a few of the many distances offered at this years Niagara Ultra. From half-marathon to the 50K. Congrats to Liz, Ivar and Sam on completing despite the heat and humidity. A sweet medal that doubles as a bottle opener for all finishers. Time to sit back and opening a few well deserved cold ones! Well done to all!
As usual, our Bender generated positive energy, pushed away all the rain clouds Sunday morning up in Inglewood. It was pouring rain when we started our run in the morning (we were even contemplating calling it off). But as we ran the rain slowed down and stopped half way thru the run. It was great being able to surprise Alan with treats afterwards. And to see Don and Pam out with us.
And the ladies who ran in Niagara for the Women’s half. Fantastic!!
Coming up this Sunday, the Tour de Grand in Cambridge. Several of us will be doing the 60 k ride. Lorraine will be racing in the 100 , practicing for her Ironman event coming up soon. If you want to join us for a fun ride, there is still time to sign up. Best $35 deal in town.
The Diva Run on Centre Island….not sure if that is still on, with all the water flooding?? If so, good luck to all of you Divas.
Tuesday – 6:45 Shoppers world for 6 km
Wed – 6:30 Bramalea RR for 10k
Thurs – Chris Gibson at 6:45 – for 6k
Congratulations to everyone that ran Mississauga and Toronto races yesterday! We lucked out with the weather (no rain/snow) but it was still cold and windy. We had several PB’s despite the conditions, as well as first half marathons for some! It was so nice to see so many Benders afterwards at Oscar’s for post race celebrations! Was especially great to see Don out! ????
Let’s welcome our newest Bender David into our group. David was part of Laura and Chandra’s Half Clinic – welcome David!
